A bear catching a piece of apple in the Bear Pits of Bern, Switzerland...Legend has it that the city of Bern was named by Berthold V of Zaehringen after the first animal killed during a hunt when the city was founded in 1191...As a consequence, the city's coat of arms features a bear, and the animal has been kept in Bern since 1480, and in the existing location since 1857.
